Where it began
In November 2014, Rick Tyler's wife Holly was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Like anyone who has been through this knows — the world stops. Fear takes over. The crying and praying start. And then the battle begins.
Twelve visits to the infusion lab. Seventeen radiation treatments. Hair loss, weight gain, exhaustion that doesn't announce itself and doesn't leave on a schedule. And then, one day, Holly was cancer free. Their life after had begun — and they quickly learned that "cancer free" and "back to normal" are not the same thing.
Life after starts the day of diagnosis — not the day treatment ends. Everything changes. Even ordinary things become a challenge. And nowhere is that gap more visible than at work, where the world expects you to simply pick up where you left off, and your body and mind are still catching up to who you are now.
What they couldn't find — anywhere — was a program built for this exact moment. Not a general wellness offering. Not a disability claim. Something designed specifically to help a person who has survived cancer find their way back to the work that gives their life structure and meaning. That absence became a mission.

The Tyler family
"We realized we could give back in a way that was uniquely ours — taking twenty years of return-to-work expertise and applying it to the people who need it most."— Rick Tyler, Founder, Life|After®
The foundation
Long before Holly's diagnosis, Rick had spent twenty years helping people get back to work. Through Tyler Ergonomics, his team had guided employees through recoveries from surgery, injury, and complex medical conditions — for employers ranging from small businesses to Fortune 20 companies. The knowledge was there. The specialist relationships were there. The care coordination process was there.
What Holly's diagnosis changed wasn't the expertise. It was the urgency — and the reason. They took everything they had built and shaped it specifically around the people who needed it most: cancer survivors trying to find their way back to a workplace that doesn't always know how to meet them.
Tyler Ergonomics has managed complex return-to-work cases across industries and employer sizes since the early 2000s.
Unlike general disability programs, Life|After® addresses the specific, persistent challenges of post-treatment life: fatigue, cognitive changes, pain management, and the gradual process of finding your way back.
Each case draws on occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, ergonomists, nutritionists, kinesiologists, and more — coordinated remotely by a dedicated care coordinator.
